Book a trial lesson!

Trial lessons provide students and families an opportunity to meet the teacher, see the studio, experience some of the teacher’s teaching style, ask questions, and learn about the teacher’s philosophy and expectations.

Trial Lessons are not always available and are only offered to clients when it is determined that the client’s schedule and the studio teacher’s current availability match. All students are required to have an instrument that meets certain criteria prior to enrollment (please feel free to use the form to ask about that).

All students are welcome, from beginners to advanced - but serious inquiries only please. Trial Lessons are not the best way to gage interest in a child and parents need to understand that music lessons do require commitment for learning to take place. Please see the appropriate sections under the Flute and Piano Lessons pages for age and other restrictions. Flute students must bring their own flute if they want to play the flute in a trial lesson.

Trial lessons for students of kindergarten age through adults are approximately 30 minutes long and are offered at a reduced fee ($20/lesson instead of $32.88-$65.75). Students can take a single Trial Lesson before deciding to enroll in the studio. Trial lessons are available only to new students of Christine Taylor.

New!!! The Preschool Piano Trial Lesson process is more extensive than the Trial Lesson process for other ages. Please see the Preschool Piano section of this website for more information. If the studio is currently accepting new preschool-aged students, parents will first have a phone interview and in-person consultation without their child. If the Parent-Teacher goals for piano lessons at this age are a good fit, then the parent may book at Trial Lesson for their child at the rate of $30.

For more information about Trial Lessons, see FAQs below.

To request a trial lesson, please use this form. The teacher will reach out to you to arrange a time for the lesson and does her best to initially respond to your form submission within two business days. For general inquiries, click here.

Trial Lesson
FAQs

Christine is excited to meet you! If you just submitted the form, expect a response within approximately one to two business days. In the meantime, more information about Trial Lessons can be found in this section ‘Trial Lesson FAQs’ and under FAQs available from the menu at the top of the page.

What will we do during the lesson and what do we need to bring?

Piano students will use the studio instrument during their trial lesson. Flute students will need to bring their own flute to play during the trial lesson. Come ready to play any song you know and bring previously used books if you have them. Be ready to try something new too!

The teacher will share more about her educational philosophy, assess the student’s current musical knowledge and level, and ask about the student’s goals and both the student and family’s past experiences in music.

What additional information do I need to provide the teacher with before the lesson?

Christine will ask you additional questions when she reaches out to you to schedule a trial lesson. Be ready to chat about your goals, past experience, style of music and vision for lessons, practicing, and more. There are many different ways to pursue music study and the goals and process will look a little different for everybody because every student and family is unique. Hopefully FFMS is a good fit for you, but trial lessons and conversations prior to enrolling are a way to help determine if FFMS is the best place for you to achieve your desired outcome.

Christine’s ideal student and family are enthusiastic about music because it is fun and because studies have shown that participating in music lessons has many positive outcomes on other areas of life. They are willing to commit some time weekly to practice and flexible to work through finding the methods and practice routine that work best for the student and family to enjoy lessons and make good progress. Christine enjoys equipping students with the foundational skills needed to make music, which is a process without a defined time or pace. She believes that staying relaxed, encouraging, adaptable, and keeping open lines of communication lead to goals being met.

Who can take trial lessons?

Everyone is welcome! Please see the age guidelines and restrictions on the Piano and Flute pages of the website.

Do parents attend the trial lesson?

Christine requires that a parent attend trial lessons with any student who is under the age of 18. Typically enrolled students take their lessons on their own while an accompanying adult remains onsite during the lesson. Guests (including siblings) are discouraged from accompanying students to trial lessons if at all possible to allow for focused instruction and question/answer time.

What are your payment and cancellation policies for trial lessons?

Payment is due at the time the lesson is scheduled and no refunds are available for lessons that are cancelled without written notice 24 hours in advance of the scheduled lesson time.

How is COVID-19 currently impacting trial lessons?

As of June 2022, masks are not required. FFMS reserves the right to update COVID policies at any time and students who are ill or arrive at a trial lesson with symptoms of illness will be asked to wear a mask, or if symptoms are severe, the remainder of the lesson will be cancelled and may be rescheduled at a later date.

What other studio policies should I be aware of before the trial lesson?

Audio or visual recordings and pictures are not permitted during trial lessons except upon request and at the discretion of the teacher. All trial lesson students and those attending the lesson with them must agree to adhere to the Studio Policies and sign a waiver of liability.
